Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training

More people are dying from suicide than in all of the armed conflicts around the world. Most people considering suicide signal their distress and intent. This training can help individuals recognize red flags and respond to invitations to help. It provides the confidence to ask about suicide if we are concerned with someone's safety.

Who should attend?

  • People concerned about family or friends
  • Counselors, teachers and ministers
  • Healthcare, welfare and justice workers
  • Emergency responders
  • Mental Health providers
  • Community volunteers
  • YOU

Training Outcomes

The emphasis of the ASIST workshop is suicide first aid - helping a person at risk stay safe and seek further help.

You will learn to:

  • Recognize opportunities to help
  • Reach out and offer support
  • Estimate the risk of suicide
  • Apply a model for suicide intervention
  • Link people with community resources

Evaluations have shown that the workshop increases caregivers' knowledge and confidence to respond to a person at risk of suicide.
